Sarah Rashid

At Large Council Candidate

“The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others” -- Gandhi.

These are the words that inspired Sarah Rashid’s deep-rooted passion for community service. Sarah is a mother of four, works in the IT industry and is honored to be serving on the Piscataway Board of Education.*

In 2008, Sarah’s family chose to move to Piscataway because of its rich diversity and strong sense of community. She has volunteered in various community initiatives including; organizing the Pway Diwali fundraiser for Piscataway Education Foundation, preparing meals for Elijah’s Promise soup kitchen, cooking for the Annual MCMC’s community sisters Iftar sponsorship and packing groceries for the MCMC Food Pantry. In 2019, she stepped up to run for committee person for her ward. If elected to the Township Council, Sarah will utilize her extensive experience to champion policies that advance inclusivity and responsiveness to Piscataway neighborhood concerns.

As an immigrant from India, Sarah is familiar with being the “outsider”. Growing up, it was easy to stick out when she lived in Nigeria, Malaysia, and around the United States. As a community leader, Sarah aims to represent all Piscataway families, regardless of affiliations to foster greater diversity. Additionally, Sarah hopes to inspire BIPOC women to seek positions of authority and also challenge them to see leadership as an action, not a position. It is often said that true representation is not possible without participation.

Sarah’s dedication to community service, fueled by her experiences as a community leader and mother, underscores her commitment to fostering inclusivity in Piscataway to create an equitable environment where all residents can thrive.
