Laura Leibowitz

At Large Council Candidate

Laura Leibowitz, M.Ed, is a Middlesex County Democratic Organization (MCDO) County Committee member and serves as an elected member of the Piscataway Democratic Organization. She is Vice Chair of Piscataway Progressive Democratic Organization. Laura has been a teacher of children with special needs at Piscataway High School since 1988.  She is married to her husband Seth and has lived in Piscataway for 20 years. Her three children have all attended our public schools, and she is a proud grandmother of her first grandchild, Pearl Jane. 

 

In 2019, Laura was part of a winning lawsuit enabling any two people, regardless of gender or sexual identity, to serve on the County Committee. Since winning her seat, Laura has worked to ensure the lines of communication are open between herself, her neighbors and the elected officials of Piscataway. She has led and organized numerous social justice, education and community events, including advocating for virtual and broadcast public access to municipal and committee meetings through the TAPE ordinance, speaking out against warehouse overdevelopment, organizing our first multicultural community talent show and a forum about marijuana legalization, as well as speaking at the Community Vigil for Racial Justice in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. 

 

Laura is an active volunteer and has always used her free time to champion causes in which she believes, including with the Piscataway Elks PBO (2014 Citizen of the Year), Key Club (2023 Advisor of the Year), Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple (Financial Secretary),and Kiwanis Club of Edison (Distinguished Secretary).  Laura will ensure transparency, fairness and communication are emphasized at every level of government in Piscataway.
